UK Veterinary Clinical Studies Registry

About UK Veterinary Clinical Studies Registry

An independent digital platform promoting transparency, accountability, and accessibility in UK veterinary clinical research.

About the registry

The UK Veterinary Clinical Studies Registry (UK-VCSR) is an independent digital platform established to promote transparency, accountability, and accessibility in veterinary clinical research. By providing a centralised, publicly accessible record of veterinary clinical studies, the registry aims to reduce unnecessary duplication of research, strengthen public trust, and improve awareness of research activities across the veterinary sector.

The UK-VCSR supports veterinary professionals, researchers, animal guardians (owners), and the wider public by making information about clinical studies easier to find and understand. The registry also has the potential to facilitate participant recruitment, encourage collaboration, and provide a trusted platform for showcasing research that contributes to advances in animal health, welfare, and evidence-based veterinary medicine.

Why this registry exists

Unlike human clinical research, where public registration of clinical trials has become an established expectation, veterinary clinical research is not routinely recorded in a central, publicly accessible database. As a result, information about veterinary studies can be difficult to find, contributing to publication bias, unnecessary duplication of research, and limited visibility for veterinarians and animal guardians seeking opportunities to participate in research or access innovative treatments.

The UK Veterinary Clinical Studies Registry (UK-VCSR) has been established to address this gap by providing the UK's first centralised, publicly accessible registry dedicated to veterinary clinical research. By improving transparency and accessibility, the registry aims to strengthen research accountability, increase awareness of ongoing studies, support participant recruitment, and promote collaboration across the veterinary research community.

What we are
  • A publicly accessible record of veterinary clinical studies conducted in the UK.
  • A platform that promotes transparency, accountability, and public awareness in veterinary clinical research.
  • A resource that supports evidence-based veterinary medicine by improving access to information about ongoing and completed studies.
  • A trusted source of information for veterinary professionals, researchers, animal guardians, and the wider public.
What we are not

The UK Veterinary Clinical Studies Registry (UK-VCSR) is not a regulatory authority, ethics committee, or funding body.

Registration of a study on the UK-VCSR does not constitute ethical approval, regulatory authorisation, scientific endorsement, or certification of study quality. Responsibility for obtaining all necessary ethical, regulatory, and institutional approvals remains with the study sponsor and investigators.

The registry's role is to provide a transparent public record of veterinary clinical research and to improve access to information about studies being conducted in the UK.

Our approach

All study submissions are reviewed by registry curators before publication to support data quality and consistency. We aim to deliver a 72-hour turnaround where possible.

Researchers are encouraged to register studies prospectively, before participant recruitment begins, in line with best practices for transparent and accountable clinical research.
